Have you heard of the merry cheery jolly story of lovely Patrick/Patricia Kitten Braden? Written by Patrick McCabe and directed by Neil Jordan,
Breakfast on Pluto is a psychedelic "adventurous life" parade of the 70s. Our hero is an abandoned Irish boy, who loves to dress in step mommy's clothes. He's a pain in the neck at school too, having too bold a tongue, as well as creative ideas for his sweaters. Having a close friend group consisted of a cute black girl, her republican boyfriend and a funny boy with down-syndrome; he is not exactly approved in the neighbourhood, especially because of his transgender style and sarcasm.
While writing a fantasy-short story at a literature class, he imagines about his real mother, who left him when yet a baby, at the door of the town's priest. He learns from a man that she looked like Mitzi Gaynor, the actress. She had been seen in London, the biggest city in the world had swallowed her up. So she becomes "the phantom lady" and our bright hero decides to leave his hometown, Cavan in Ireland, going to London, in search for his ghostly mother.
On the road to mommy, he encounters various people, from Billy Hatchet of the Mohawks, to whom he fell in love, to a magician, and a kind looking man filled with hatred against the transvestite. He is left alone by Billy, who had promised to take him to hospital and even bring him roses, if one day, coming home he found him lying on the floor. He is arrested by the London police, after a bomb explosion in a club, and beaten ferociously. He starts to work as a whore, after his "showbiz career". Yet his optimistic naive nature never lets him lose hope and laughter.
Finally one day his father comes to find him at a brothel, accepting him as his son and telling him the adress of his real mother. Dressed up as a victorian conservative lady, supposed to be working for the British Telecom, he visits her in her home where she lives happily with her husband and two children. He faints at the first glance, but later gets back to himself and goes back to live with his friend, who is pregnant. They live together with the priest, black girl and her baby. He was looking for the phantom mother, yet he found himself a father instead.
The films music usage is enchanting; songs like "Sugar baby love" from the Rubettes, a classical romance like "Honey" from Bobby Goldsboro, "Feelings" from Morris Albert and "How much is that doggy in the window" are perfectly fit. Costumes are ravishing, pure glittery glam of the 70s, fur jackets, bell-bottomed high waist trousers... I watched every single scene drooling! And what a man that Cillian Murphy is! He became such a wonderful transvestite, probably the only one I've found attractive so far.
If you have not still watched the film, do it as soon as possible, you're gonna love the optimistic light feeling, the adventures of Patrick Kitten Braden fills you up with...

Yine de iyimser naif doğası, asla umudunu ve kahkahasını kaybetmesine izin vermez.
Sonunda bir gün babası onu bir genelevde bulur, oğlu olarak kabul eder ve annesinin adresini verir. Sözde ingiliz Telekom için çalışan muhafazakar bir İngiliz hanımefendisi gibi giyinip annesini kocası ve iki oğlu ile birlikte mutlu yaşadığı evinde ziyarete gider. İlk bakışta bayılır, fakat sonra kendine gelir ve hamile arkadaşıyla brilikte yaşadığı yere geri döner. Papaz, zenci kız ve bebeği ile beraber yaşarlar. Hayalet annesini ararken kendine bir baba bulmuştur bunun yerine.
