RAPUNZEL,RAPUNZEL LET DOWN YOUR HAIR!

This is the tale of a maiden locked in a tower...

Rapunzel's story has similarities to the 10th century Persian tale of Rudaba, included in the epic poem of Shahnameh by Ferdowsi. Rudaba offers to let down her hair from her tower so that her lover Zal can climb up to her. *

Once upon a time, a lonely couple, who want a child, lived next to a walled garden belonging to a witch. After the wife gets pregnant, she notices a rapunzel plant (lettuce), growing in the garden and longs for it desperately. On each of two nights, the husband breaks into the garden to gather some for her; on a third night, the witch catches him and accuses him of theft. He begs for mercy, and the old woman agrees to be lenient, on condition that the then-unborn child be surrendered to her at birth. Desperate, the man agrees. When the baby girl is born, the witch takes the child to raise as her own, and names the baby Rapunzel. Rapunzel grows up to be the most beautiful child in the world with long golden hair. When Rapunzel reaches her twelfth year, the old witch shuts her away in a tower in the middle of the woods, with neither stairs nor a door, and only one room and one window... When the witch visits Rapunzel, she stands beneath the tower and calls out:

Bir zamanlar, yıllardır çocukları olmayan yalnız bir çift, cadının tekinin oturduğu yüksek duvarlı bir bahçeye komşu yaşarmış. Hamile kaldıktan sonra kadın bu bahçedeki marulları gördüğünde canı çok çekmiş, aşeriyormuş.  İki gece, kocası duvarı aşıp bahçeye girmiş ve karısına birer marul getirmiş, fakat 3. gece cadı onu yakalayıp hırsızlıkla suçlamış. Adam cadıya merhameti için yalvarmış, cadı bir şartla yumuşak davranmayı kabul etmiş:henüz doğmamış çocukları doğumundan itibaren kendisine teslim edilecekmiş.  Çaresiz adam razı olmuş. Bebek doğunca cadı onu alıp yanında büyütmüş ve kız çocuğuna Rapunzel adını koymuş. Rapunzel upuzun altın sarısı saçlarıyla dünyadaki en güzel kız çocuğu olmuş. Kız 12 yaşına gelince yaşlı cadı onu ormanın ortasında bir kuleye kapatmış, ne kuleye çıkan bir merdiven,,ne kapı varmış; yalnızca bir penceresi olan tek bir oda... Cadı ziyarete geldiği zaman pencere altında dikilip ona bağırırmış:

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair, so that I may climb the golden stair!".

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel indir aşağı altın saçlarını da tırmanayım!"

Hearing these words, Rapunzel would wrap her long, fair hair around a hook beside the window, dropping it down to the women, who would then climb up the hair to Rapunzel's tower room.  One day, a prince rides through the forest and hears Rapunzel singing from the tower. Entranced by her ethereal voice, he searches for the girl and discovers the tower, but is naturally unable to enter. He returns often, listening to her beautiful singing, and one day sees the witch visit, and thus learns how to gain access to Rapunzel. When she is gone, he bids Rapunzel let her hair down. When she does so, he climbs up, makes her acquaintance, and eventually asks her to marry him. Rapunzel agrees.
Bu sözleri duyan Rapunzel, uzun saçlarını pencere kenarındaki kancaya dolayıp aşağı sarkıtıyormuş ki, yaşlı kadın kuleye tırmanıp içeri girsin. Bir gün, ormanda at binen bir prens Rapunzel'in şarkı söylerken sesini duymuş. Kızın meleksi sesiyle büyülenen prens, araya araya kuleyi bulmuşsa da, içeri girmeyi başaramamış. Defalarca kere gelip kızın şarkılarını dinlemiş, bir seferinde cadının ziyaretine denk gelince Rapunzel'e ulaşmanın yolunu öğrenmiş. Kadın gittikten sonra Rapunzel'e saçlarını salması için yalvarmış, sonra da tırmanıp onunla tanışmış. Sonunda Rapunzel prensin evlenme teklifini kabul etmiş.

Together they plan a means of escape, wherein he will come each night and bring her silk, which Rapunzel will gradually weave into a ladder. Before the plan can come to fruition, however, Rapunzel foolishly gives the prince away. In anger, the witch cuts short Rapunzel's braided hair and casts her out into the wilderness to fend for herself. When the prince comes to visit her, the angry witch lets down her braid for him and to his horror, he finds himself staring at the witch instead of Rapunzel, who is nowhere to be found. He leaps from the tower in despair and is blinded by the thorns below. For months of wandering, the prince eventually comes to the wilderness where Rapunzel now lives with the twins she has given birth to, a boy and a girl. One day, as Rapunzel sings while she fetches water, the prince hears Rapunzel's voice again, and they are reunited. When they fall into each other's arms, her tears immediately restore his sight. The prince leads her and their children to his kingdom, where they live happily ever after.
Birlikte bir kaçış planı yapmışlar; prens her gece gizlice gelip ipek getirecekmiş, Rapunzel bunları örüp merdiven yapsın diye. Fakat plan gerçekleşmeden, Rapunzel saflığından ağzından kaçırmış. Öfkelenen cadı, örgülü saçlarını kısacık kestiği Rapunzel'i ormana tek başına bırakmış. Prens yine ziyarete geldiğinde, kızgın cadı Rapunzel'in kestiği örgüsünü uzatmış ve prens karşısında cadıyı bulunca korkudan titremiş. Rapunzel'den iz olmadığını öğrenince kederle kuleden atlayan prensin gözlerini dikenli çalılar kör etmiş. Aylarca dolaşıp aradıktan sonra prens sonunda Rapunzel'in artık yaşadığı ormana gelip, su taşırken şarkı söyleyen Rapunzel'i sesinden tanımış. Kadın bir kız bir oğlan ikizler doğurmuş ve yeniden bir araya gelmişler. Sarıldıkları zaman gözyaşları gözlerini iyileştirir, prens prensesle çocukları krallığına götürür. Sonsuza dek mutlu yaşarlar.

These are customized wedding shoes for Amy&Brad from US. We agreed upon Rapunzel theme and I painted Rapunzel letting down her gorgeous golden hair from the tower, using 3d gold paint and glitter. On the toe-cap the prince is pictured wrapped up in her hair. :) On the other shoe, I painted his magnificent white horse and their marriage scene. Violet satin ribbons are used and pearls&crystals are added to complete the fairy tale look. Their names are written on platforms.

Rapunzel temasında karar kıldık, ben de Rapunzel'i o muhteşem altın sarısı saçlarını kuleden sarkıtırken çizdim, kabartılı altın boya ve ışıltı kullandım. Burun kısmında prens saçlarına dolanmış görülüyor :) Diğer ayakkabıda, prensin şahane atını ve evlenme sahnesini resmettim. Eflatun saten kurdeleler kullanıldı ve incilerle kristaller eklenerek masal havası tamamlandı. Adları platformlara yazıldı.
